Private Steve Rogers[2] was an American military officer and government-sponsored vigilante of the 20th century. Rogers became widely known internationally under the identity of Captain America, and became an icon to a generation of United States youth.
In response to a rash of sabotage carried out by a foreign power, Rogers was selected by J. Arthur Grover of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to undergo an experimental process administered by Doctor Reinstein. The experiment was a success and resulted in Rogers' strength and intelligence being greatly increased but Reinstein and Grover were assassinated by a Nazi-sponsored spy, leaving Rogers the only one of his kind. Rogers immediately went to work, foiling numerous sabotage plots.[2]
