—Carnage, after murdering Robert Sutcliff
—Carnage
Cletus Kasady was an American serial killer of the late 20th century. After sharing a cell by chance with Eddie Brock, Kasady found himself bonded with a symbiote of his own. Now calling himself Carnage, he set out to cause anarchy and chaos in a campaign of mass murder, and became one of the most deadly foes of Spider-Man.
Biography[]
Youth[]
Kasady was raised as an orphan at the St. Estes Home for Boys. A fire broke out there, and in the ruins first responders found the remains of the home's administrator. While it was assumed at the time that she had fallen while in a panic and smashed her skull, Peter Parker later surmised that she was Kasady's first victim.[1]
After a tragedy at the homecoming dance, Kasady was never seen again by his high school principal. At the time he was recognised as an unusual individual and a poor student.[1]
Imprisonment[]
Kasady was sentenced to 11 consecutive life terms for 11 murders.[1]
Carnage[]
Confinement with Eddie Brock[]
Kasady found himself imprisoned with Eddie Brock.[2] The pair of them did not get along, eventually leading Kasady to decide to murder Brock, as he was already serving 11 consecutive life sentences and did not care about adding another to his term. He was interrupted by the arrival of the Venom symbiote, which reunited with Brock. Venom escaped into the night, unknowingly leaving behind a sample of the symbiote.[3]
Escape from Incarceration[]
After Brock's escape, Kasady was moved to solitary confinement. While speaking to the symbiote that had merged with him, Kasady was approached by a prison guard. Within seconds, Kasady used his enhanced strength to pull the unfortunate guard through the cell bars, horrifically mangling him within seconds. Kasady chose that moment to escape from prison.[4]
Now calling himself Carnage, Kasady flipped through the phone book and decided to kill Gunther Stein, based on his name alone. Carnage found Stein entering his home and smothered him to death.[5]
Carnage subsequently murdered a student at Empire State University's Agro-Lab. The news reached Peter Parker, who immediately connected it to an ongoing series of killings committed by Carnage. Parker, believing the crimes to have been committed by an insane Eddie Brock, investigated until he pieced together that it was Kasady committing the murders. He investigated Kasady's life, meeting with his high school principal, a psychologist, and other acquaintances, before deciding to check the ruins of the St. Estes School for Boys. Spider-Man found him there and the two engaged in combat. Carnage held the upper hand until the arrival of two police officers, choosing then to make his escape.[1]
Carnage's murder of the Tandy family that same night forced Parker to find and consult Venom on how to defeat the superpowered serial killer.[1]

- Strength: Carnage was strong enough to fight both Venom and Spider-Man at the same time.[7]
