Courtship and move to California[]
Riley's courtship of his wife Peg began in Brooklyn. He successfully seduced her out of a relationship with Sidney Monahan. (FILM: The Life of Riley)
Riley had moved to Los Angeles ten years prior to his financial troubles. His marriage by that time had lasted twenty. (FILM: The Life of Riley)

- Riley was portrayed by multiple actors. Riley was portrayed by William Bendix in the 1944 - 1951 radio series.[1] Riley was then played by Jackie Gleason in the 1948 - 1950 television series based on the radio show.[2][3] He was also played by Lon Chaney Jr. in the unaired pilot for that series.[4] Bendix then returned in the 1949 film adaptation,[5][6] before returning again for the final television series that lasted from 1953 to 1958.[7]
