Count Dooku was a Jedi Knight, Sith Lord, and secessionist politician prior to the establishment of the Galactic Empire. As part a scheme hatched by his Sith master, Darth Sidious, Dooku abandoned the Jedi Order and masterminded the rise of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a breakaway faction of discontented planetary systems upset with their treatment by the Galactic Republic. The secession led to the rise of the Clone Wars. bringing about millions of deaths on both sides.
Dooku was killed in a duel with Anakin Skywalker in the midst of a plot to kidnap Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, only realising moments before his death that his master was grooming Skywalker to replace him.
