In January 2001, The Mirror reported that a film would be going forward starring Sean Bean as the Doctor.[1] In 2003, a web serial was produced by the BBC starring Richard E. Grant as the Ninth Doctor.[2]
Production Begins[]
The revival was announced by the BBC on 26 September 2003.[3] After the announcement, Anthony Stewart Head won a poll to be named the favourite to play the Doctor's next incarnation, beating out Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry.[4] Christopher Eccleston's casting as the Doctor was ultimately announced on 20 March 2004.[5]
