Doomguy[2] was an American space marine of the 21st century. After assaulting a superior officer, Doomguy was transferred to Mars to work as a guard for the Union Aerospace Corporation. Longstanding experiments into interdimensional travel later resulted in a demonic invasion of Phobos and the disappearance of Deimos. After failed attempts to regain contact with either moon, Doomguy and his squad were deployed to the surface of Phobos. Doomguy was ordered to secure the perimeter and thus was forced to listen to his squadmates' deaths over the radio.[3]

After days of fighting, Doomguy routed the demonic invasion of Mars. Doomguy was touted as a warhero for having singlehandedly repelled the assault. Despite this, Doomguy quit the military in the hopes of leading a normal life. Unfortunately, upon his arrival on Earth, he found the planet in the midst of a renewed invasion. With human evacuees blocked by a flame barrier from leaving the planet, Doomguy resolved to liberate the spaceport to prevent humanity's extinction.[4]

Following his liberation of Earth, the marine was left with traumatic nightmares that were not mitigated by treatments from military doctors. The planet was quarantined and blanketed with high levels of radiation to exterminate any remaining demons. However, a long-disused and abandoned satellite broadcast a message to Earth, triggering a wave of energy signatures across the planet. A single entity had evaded detection and was resurrecting the corpses of all the slain demons. Doomguy was recommissioned and deployed once more.[5]
