Douglas Darien Walker (b. 17 November 1981) is an Italian-American internet comedian and commentator, best known for creating the character "the Nostalgia Critic".

Biography[]

Youth[]

Walker was born in Naples, Italy. His father's military career meant that his family traveled to various places across the United States while he was growing up.[1]

Internet Career[]

After Mike Michaud was fired from his job at Circuit City, he borrowed $5000 to fund future endeavours. Partnering with friends Mike Ellis and Walker, they launched ThatGuyWithTheGlasses while making plans for a website called Channel Awesome.[2]

On 7 April 2008, Walker uploaded a video to the ThatGuyWithTheGlasses site entitled "How I Quit My Job",[3] in which he walked into his place of employment with a boombox blaring "Also sprach Zarathustra" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" while tearing his shirt open to reveal he had painted "I QUIT" on his chest. He left the premises after being threatened with an arrest.[4][5] Walker later uploaded a commentary video in which he spoke about the reasoning behind quitting in this fashion.[6]

Controversies[]

#changethechannel[]

In April 2017, a 73 page Google Doc was compiled listing various offences against the employees of Channel Awesome committed by Walker, his brother Rob, Mike Michaud, and other management-level figures on the site.[7]
