Coming of the Last Knight[]

After being informed by Cogman of the Talisman's activation, Burton sought out Viviane Wembly, the last descendant of Merlin, at Oxford University. There he witnessed her giving a lecture. He then dispatched Cogman to locate Cade Yeager, recipient of the Talisman, and return him to the United Kingdom.

He was subsequently contacted by former Sector Seven agent Seymour Simmons, who informed him of the truthful existence of the mythical Book of Cyber-Kells and of its location at the library at Trinity College Dublin. He then dispatched Hot Rod to kidnap Wembley. Cogman soon landed on the beach at the White Cliffs of Dover and walked his guests to Castle Folgan.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The 12th Earl of Folgan was played by Welsh actor Sir Anthony Hopkins.[1][2] Hopkins was cast in the role in 2016.[3] He had seen the previous films in the series and enjoyed Burton's characterisation in the script.[4] Hopkins saw similarities between himself and Burton, namely that they were both "no-nonsense, tough, practical".[5] He additionally considered director Michael Bay to be a "genius" and a "savant", comparing his directorial talents to Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorcese.[6]

Trivia[]

In-universe[]

  • The canonical spelling of Burton's given name is uncertain. In the film's end credits, it is rendered "Edmond". In promotional material and at least one prop made for the film, it is rendered "Edmound".[5][7]

Reception[]

  • Hopkins' performance was considered one of the film's positive aspects. Conversely, the character has been cited as an example of the film's indelicate attempts to establish material for spinoff media.[8]

  • Transformers: The Last Knight (first and final appearance)
