“ | Everything that has transpired has done so, according to my design. Your friends, out there on the sanctuary moon, are walking into a trap, as is your Rebel fleet. It was I who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator. It is quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of my best troops awaits them. Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive. | ” |
–the Emperor, to Luke Skywalker |
The Emperor was the ruler of the Galactic Empire. After having done away with the Senate, the Emperor exercised full control of the galaxy, until the Rebel Alliance emerged as a powerful obstacle following the destruction of the Death Star. After dispatching his enforcer Darth Vader to capture prominent rebel Luke Skywalker, the Emperor emerged from hiding to oversee the construction of the second Death Star. He was killed by Vader during the Battle of Endor, after failing to convince the latter to kill his son.
