Giles Habibula was a member of the Legion of Space. Habibula, alongside Jay Kalam and Hal Samdu, assisted John Ulnar in defeating the Medusae by rescuing Aladoree Anthar.
Notes[]
Behind the Scenes[]
- Habibula was created by American author Jack Williamson.[1] Williamson drew inspiration from the speeches of William Shakespeare's Falstaff for the character; Williamson would later note that Falstaff was in turn patterned on the much older character Miles Gloriosus.[2]
Reception[]
- Multiple reviewers have found Habibula's characterisation to be annoying,[3][4][5] while Alan Brown, reviewing "The Legion of Space" for Reactor, felt it was humourous.[6]
Trivia[]
- David Weber wrote a short story featuring the character, "A Certain Talent",[7] for Roger Zelazny's "The Williamson Effect", an anthology tribute to Williamson.[8]
- Habibula inspired Poul Anderson's character Nicholas van Rijn.[9]
