- "When The Shipping News was shooting in Newfoundland, so the story goes Kevin Spacey arrived in town with several security guards in tow. If you’ve ever been to Newfoundland, you would know that the people there wouldn’t care who he was. They would care more about what he was. They sent most of the guards home but kept a couple. The production also set up a barricade to keep curious people away from him. A few people lingered to watch but after a couple of days it became clear that this wasn’t needed either. So they took it down. What they didn’t see coming was that people would walk onto the set right past Kevin Spacey and over to GORDON PINSENT. The real star of the movie. A local boy. Who remembered everyone’s name and kept disappearing to play crib and have a cuppa with locals. Legend. Also by all accounts Dame Judi Dench can handle herself on a four-wheeler. Love that image. Anyway, no one can ever act as well as Mr. PINSENT but we should all aspire to act LIKE him. A true gentleman and Canadian Star if ever there was one."
- "This morning I woke up to the news of the passing of our beloved and iconic Gordon Pinsent. It is with a very heavy heart I wanted to send my love and condolences to his/my family. Gordon was my mentor, relative, friend and growing up…pen pal. He was an inspiration to me my entire life. An incomparable talent, the purest and kindest of hearts, a creative soul, an artist and was filled with passion for both his craft and Canada as a whole. Gordon was the first person I reached out to as a child when I wanted to become an actor. We wrote letters, he encouraged me and motivated me. Gordon surprised me on the set of my first acting job (Goosebumps) and gave me a pep talk/ fatherly advice on being professional and leading with kindness and an open heart. My entire career I knew I wanted to work with him but the universe wasn’t making that happen. So a few years ago, I made that happen, thanks to an incredible team, I developed a story specifically with him in mind. My talented and close friend Jess Petelle came onboard to direct, Zoe Robyn wrote the short and Filmcoop Inc. signed on. Without hesitation Gordon agreed to play the role of ‘Fred’ and we were off to the races. Age of Dysphoria is an incredible film Gordon and I were both extremely proud to be a part of. Working with Gordon meant so much more to me than he may have ever known. I just watched him in complete awe. He was incredible in Age of Dysphoria and I felt immense gratitude for his presence in my life and career. We often spoke on the phone, however it burdens me now that I hadn’t spoken to him in a few months because… well life just happens. Gordon’s life remains to be an inspiration to me and many. I will always find my way home Gordon and never forget all the encouragement and support you gave me."
