Grand Moff Tarkin was a human politician and military officer who served as a territorial governor for the Galactic Empire. After the Emperor permanently dissolved the Senate, Governor Tarkin was given absolute control of his territory. Alongside imperial operative Darth Vader, Tarkin utilised the newly finished superweapon known as the Death Star to terrorise the galaxy.

- Tarkin was portrayed by English actor Peter Cushing.[1][2] Cushing was originally offered the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi but felt his appearance would be better suited to Tarkin.[3]
- George Lucas offered the role to Christopher Lee, who turned it down.[4]
