Hans Gruber was an internationally feared German terrorist. He was a fomer member of the West German Volksfrei movement, and the mastermind behind the heist of Nakatomi Plaza, and ran into trouble with John McClane there.

His brother Simon Gruber was a colonel in the East German army. Simon would later claim to want revenge for his brother's death at the hands of McClane, though this was found to be false.

Notes[]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • Gruber was portrayed by English actor Alan Rickman.[1][2]
  • Bruce Willis felt that Gruber was "an intelligent, thinking bad-guy. Alan Rickman in the first Die Hard was perfect. Smart, witty, funny, obnoxious. Not at all your nondescript, gun-toting thug."[3]

Appearances[]

  • Die Hard (first and final appearance)
  • Die Hard with a Vengeance (archive footage)
