Commander John J. Adams was a commander of the United Planets Crusier C-57D. While on assignment to Altair IV to inquire after the fate of the Bellerophon, he encountered Dr. Edward Morbius and his daughter, Altaira. Morbius was the sole survivor of the Bellerophon, whose crew had died under mysterious circumstances, and had stayed behind on the planet to investigate the ruins of the Krell civilisation. While preparing to leave Adams' crew encountered a mysterious creature, born from Morbius' id. Adams and his surviving crew departed Altair IV with Adams' new lover, Altaira, and watched the destruction of the planet before returning to Earth.
