“ | I'm on his tail now. There's nowhere safe. | ” |
–Sheriff James Cooper |
James Cooper was the elected sheriff of Cryer, Wisconsin. Cooper worked with Deputy Aubrey Bradimore to solve a series of killings committed by Ronald Jones, Jr., though Cooper suspected and refused to consider suspects other than Stein Karsson.
Notes[]
- Cooper was portrayed by English actor Malcolm McDowell.[1][2]
- McDowell stated that filming took about 17 days.[3] McDowell had not seen the original film,[4] but accepted the role because he hadn't been offered the role of the villain, and compared it to his role as Dr. Loomis in Rob Zombie's "Halloween" films.[3] McDowell enjoyed poking fun at the mentality of a small town sheriff who believed himself to be infallible,[4] and stated his favourite scene was Cooper's death scene.[3]
- Reviewer Jason Adams stated of McDowell and Cooper, "McDowell's sheriff character is completely insane, ignoring reality for most of the movie and using a random Southern accent for the rest of it. He gets to spout off classic lines like, "Don't put avocado on the burger!" and "A crime fighter's senses switch to something primeval, from when we hunted cave-bears and dinosaurs." McDowell clearly will not turn down a role... and for this we are thankful."[5] Reviewer David Crow, in a negative review of the film, stated that McDowell was the true star, and that "McDowell brightens the screen whenever he is on entirely because of his lack of effort."[6] Brad Jones, in-character as the Cinema Snob, referred to McDowell's character as his favourite aspect of the film.[7]
