The Joker

Jack Napier (4 October 1964 - 1989) was an American gangster, terrorist, and supervillain of the 20th century. While serving as underboss to Gotham City crime boss Carl Grissom, Grissom discovered that Napier had been sleeping with Alicia Hunt, his mistress, and engineered a trap to kill him in the Axis Chemicals plant. Interference by Batman lead to Napier falling into a vat of chemicals, which bleached his skin and turned his hair green.

After a visit to a plastic surgeon, Napier discovered the change was permanent, and his sanity snapped. Now calling himself the Joker, he killed Grissom, seizing control of his gang and embarking on a terroristic crime spree across Gotham. Continued interference by Batman foiled most of his schemes, and the Joker was eventually killed by him.
