Commander Kruge was a renegade Klingon starship captain that sought to steal the secrets of the Genesis Device. His unsanctioned landing on the planet Genesis brought him into conflict with Admiral James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise, who were seeking the newly resurrected Spock.
