La Mort Rouge was a village in the Canadian province of Quebec. It lay about 12 miles from Quebec City, in the direction of a waterfall.

19th century[]
100 years before Lord William Penrose spoke before a meeting of the Royal Canadian Occult Society which Sherlock Holmes attended, an apparition was recorded as having manifested at night. The morning after the apparition's appearance, three people were found dead with their throats torn out. The town earned its name from that event. (FILM: The Scarlet Claw)
