Mark Edward Fischbach (b. 28 June 1989) is an actor, writer, and director, largely known for his on-going series of let's plays under the name Markiplier.

Over time, thanks to his penchant for sketch comedy, and eventually, cinematic narratives, Fischbach has become known for playing such characters as Wilford Warfstache, Darkiplier, and an exaggerated, fictionalized version of himself, Markiplier.

Fischbach agreed with General James Mattis's critiques of Trump from a June 2020 article for The Atlantic.

Aspirations

Fischbach has spoken about using his subscribers to change the world, as well as his ideology and hoping to pass it on to his subscribers. Fischbach has worn a shirt saying "Future President" in a live stream on 22 January 2017. Since then, Fischbach has stated that he believes he would not be able to go into politics, citing a video in which he twerked as one of several things that would prevent this.

Controversies

Antifeminism allegations

On 11 December 2014, Fischbach uploaded an episode of his and Seán McLoughlin's let's play of "The Forest", during which he discussed feminism, equality between the sexes, and double standards surrounding violence between men and women. The following day, Fischbach posted an apology and clarified his stance on domestic abuse and feminism.

Snapchat controversy

On 26 January 2015, a fan alleged that Fischbach had taken advantage of her and had kept screenshots of nude photographs of her Fischbach in turn confirmed that the events had occurred, but denied having taken a screenshot.

Offense to the transgender community

On 18 July 2014, Fischbach uploaded a video entitled "Impossible Let's Play: MAKEUP CHALLENGE", in which he applied makeup to his face while attempting to play a video game. On 31 July, Fischbach replied to an insult to his appearance posted on Tumblr with screenshots from the video. On 22 April 2015, Fischbach replied to discourse around the post by flippantly dismissing all criticism. By the 2nd of June, Fischbach had changed his stance and posted a message on his Tumblr account in which he apologised for both having posted the photos, acknowledging that it could be hurtful to the transgender community, as well as having dismissed valid criticisms. He also reflected on having publicly used an anti-transgender slur in casual conversation in the past. He stated that he strove to be a better person and that he would not accept any harassment carried out in his name.

Fischbach would later post on Twitter affirming his support for transgender rights, and has raised money for charity for LGBTQ causes.
