“ You ever hear of Michael Lymburner? He was the epitome of evil. People used to come from all around to try his delectable sausages. Everyone wanted the recipe, but Michael would never reveal the... special ingredient. ”
—Nancy Simmons, to Tommy St. Clair, on Lymburner's cannibalism
Michael Lymburner was an American[1] pig farmer and serial killer of the early 21st century. Lymburner began murdering people in order to cannibalise them and feed them to his pigs. The unique taste imbued in his pork as a result lead to his sausages becoming very popular in the local region until the discovery of his crimes. He was caught and sentenced for his crimes. However, he subsequently escaped custody and was still at large while another killer began his own murder spree in the same hometown.

- ↑ While numerous websites claim the film is set in Canada, "Left for Dead" takes deliberate (if half-assed) measures to obscure Ontario licence plates, has a mention of a "state council" during a radio broadcast, and police cars marked as "State Police". The only evidence pointing towards a Canadian setting is the poorly-shot sign of the Hamilton Police Central Station; however, short of assuming the film takes place in an alternate history where Canada either has states or was annexed by the United States, it's most likely the film is set in America.
- ↑ A radio broadcast states Lymburner had killed over 40 people, meaning that accounting for the two we see he needed to kill at least 39 more to qualify for the "over 40" descriptor.
