Ottawa is the capital city of Canada, and the fourth largest city in the country. It stands on the south bank of the Ottawa River, and is on the Ontario side of the border from Gatineau, Quebec.
The denouement of the book takes place in Ottawa, as protagonists Joseph Lamirande and Lawrence Houghton fight evil Satanists Aristide Montarval and Prime Minister Sir Henry Marwood from passing legislation to create federal union between the provinces and the federal government.[2]
Prime Minister MacEachran wins an election, only to be harassed by the honourable members from Quebec, culminating in war between the federal government and the province.[3]

Bush pilot Brian MacLean (Jimmy Cagney) goes to Ottawa with new bride Emily Foster. Fellow pilot Johnny Dutton (Dennis Morgan) finds a recruiting centre there, and joins the Royal Canadian Air Force.[4]
A young boy is sent to Canada to be with his uncle so as not to witness his mother's terminal illness. He resolves to go back with a man who can take care of his mother.[6]
