John Mathieson (alias Percival "P.T." Westmoreland) was an American impostor, cult leader, and longevity claimant who revived the Neolutionist ideology.
Notes[]
Behind the Scenes[]
- Mathieson was portrayed by Canadian actor Stephen McHattie.[1]
- Mathieson's claimed age was circulated by the creators of the show prior to the debut. Fawcett stated that the character was meant to represent the patriarchy.[2]
- Tatiana Maslany compared the character to Donald Trump, stating "Given the political climate right now, it's really interesting to have the person at the top be this desperately insecure, powerful, yet completely inept being—this guy, this patriarch who is completely self-motivated and doesn't have any interest in whose lives he's destroying," and adding that of all the villains killed on the show, his was the most satisfying death to her.[3]
- Director John Fawcett, one of the co-creators of the show, stated that while Westmoreland's death was considered important, he and Graeme Manson felt it more important to show the protagonists' future lives.[4]
