The Permian Basin Superorganism (PBSO)[2] was an instance of Immanis colosseus found in the Permian Basin region of Texas. Its discovery in the 1970s led to the establishment of the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park in 1980.[3]
History[]
Later events[]
In the wake of the disaster, the United States Department of Energy performed a feasibility study to determine the effectiveness of nuclear weapons against the superorganism. Their report determined that it would unwise to make the attempt.[4]
On 14 August 2018, a geobiological activity advisory warning was disseminated by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the United States Geological Survey, and the Permian Basin Recovery Corporation for Coke County, Gumption County, Howard County, Midland County, and Sterling County.[5]
The CARES Act, passed by the United States Congress, earmarked $120,000,000 US for further resource extraction from the superorganism.[6]
