Ruben J. "Rooster" Cogburn was an American lawman of the late 19th century. As an officer of the United States Marshals Service Cogburn patrolled and kept the peace in Indian Territory. Cogburn became known for his cantankerous personality and uncouth, gruff demeanour. Cogburn killed a total of 66 people during his career, for which he claimed to have been acting in self-defence or in the in the line of duty.
