“ | I believe in two things: discipline and The Bible. Here you'll receive both. Put your trust in The Lord. Your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank. | ” |
–Warden Samuel Norton, 1947 |
Samuel Norton was an American prison warden and money launderer who served as the warden of Shawshank State Prison. Norton took part in a vast kickback scheme with the help of Andy Dufresne, a convicted murderer and inmate of Shawshank coerced into assisting with Norton's plots.
Personality[]
Norton was unscrupulous, and corrupt, and ruthless with his foes, and especially the inmates of Shawshank Prison. In contrast to all of this, he was almost always a devout Christian, prone to quoting Bible verses and holding the standards of his inmates to that of the Old Testament.
