–Sergei Kolek |
Sergei Kolek was a co-founder of defence contractor Veritec Industries alongside Kristine Ambrose. A genius computer programmer, mathematician, and engineer, Kolek's life was thrown off course when he contracted HIV. He grew to despise technology, and later sought to return humanity to a pre-technological existence by uploading his mind to cyberspace and becoming a sentient computer virus. He planned on travelling across the internet and sabotaging every defence deployed against the Y2K bug in order to bring civilization to a halt. His plot was foiled by the Office of Scientific Investigation and Research.

Despite his aversion to technology he was willing to use advanced technology of his own creation to achieve this end.
He had an affinity for the game Go because of its complex nature; he leapt at the chance to play with Matt Praeger instead of by himself and left references to it in the self-destruct program used in his home.
