Simon Vanguard was a Canadian military officer and cult leader of the 20th century. Following an encounter with a Meat Snake in 1945, Vanguard became part of a cult dedicated to the worship of Vita Carnis.

Vanguard enlisted in the military at the age of 18.

Cult activities

During cleanup of a train tunnel, a crew discovered a massive Meat Snake that had engorged itself sufficiently to become trapped. It had developed immunity to extreme temperatures and samples of its flesh could withstand heavy doses of radiation. Vanguard had been involved in feeding it, and subsequently arranged for its escape in 1947.

Arrest

After they penetrated the Restricted Zone, Vanguard was captured by C.A.R.C.A.S. during the raid of Lanburrow Mall, in the midst of performing a ritualistic sacrifice. He was subsequently interrogated in early 1991 about his motives, but remained silent until provoked into an outburst of religious fervour.

• While it's unclear as of yet when Vanguard was born exactly, there isn't anything to suggest that Vanguard served at an age younger than the minimum required. That age was 18 years old. As a result, Vanguard had to have been born between 1921 to 1927 in order to have been 18 when he served, accounting for him possibly enlisting anywhere between 1939 to 1945. This places him firmly in the Greatest Generation.
