Skaro was the homeworld of the Kaleds and the Thals, and of the Daleks. The latter race were the creation of the mad scientist Davros during the Thousand Year War between the Thals and Kaleds, and soon spread across the universe committing genocide as he designed.

The Daleks became such a threat that they attracted the interest of the Time Lords of Gallifrey, and specifically of the one known as the Doctor. The Doctor first found himself on the planet in his first incarnation,[1] caused a civil war among the Daleks during his second, was forced to engage in temporal warfare by Gallifrey in his fourth, and ultimately destroyed the planet in his seventh.
