The Tenth Doctor was an incarnation of the Time Lord known as the Doctor. After his previous incarnation succumbed to the bodily damage inflicted on him by the energies of the time vortex, he returned with Rose Tyler to London while he attempted to recover from the effects of regeneration. After foiling the Sycorax invasion, he continued his travels with Rose until the Battle of Canary Wharf when they were forcibly separated.
Notes[]
Behind the Scenes[]
- The Doctor was portrayed by Scottish actor David Tennant. His casting was announced on 16 April 2005.[1][2] Others rumoured to be taking on the part were Bill Nighy, Richard E. Grant, David Thewlis, and Alan Davies.[3] Tennant at the time expressed his concerns of whether or not he would live up to Christopher Eccleston's portrayal, but told fans to give him a chance.[4] His popularity became obvious when he defeated perennial favourite Tom Baker as the audience's preferred Doctor in 2006; the runners up in the popularity poll were Eccleston, Jon Pertwee, and Patrick Troughton. Baker had won every single poll run by Doctor Who Magazine, apart from in 1990 when Sylvester McCoy won.[5]
- Mark Hooper of Esquire said the Doctor's outfit "looks really good. Someone said to me it looks a bit Jarvis Cocker, kind of geeky but cool. It is a much younger look, like he's in an indie band. The pinstripe suit is quite tight-fitting, quite timely. It's a bit of an absent-minded professor look, but trendy with it. It's slightly eccentric."[6]
Trivia[]
- Bob Muyskens jokingly nominated the Doctor to be Wade Barnes' United States Secretary of Health and Human Services in an episode of their podcast "Distractible".[7][8]
