James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger Jr. (3 September 1929 - 30 October 2018) was an American crime boss who ran the Irish mob in Boston, Massachusetts. Bulger simultaneously served as an informant to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was tipped off by his handler prior to being indicted. Bulger spent 16 years on the run and earned a spot on the "Ten Most Wanted" list, below Osama bin Laden. Bulger was captured and convicted in 2013. In October 2018, Bulger was found murdered in prison.[1]
