Captain Logan[1] (codenamed "Weapon X" and "the Wolverine") was a Canadian mutant government operative and superhero who abandoned his country to fight on behalf of the X-Men.
Biography[]
Military service[]
Logan served in the Canadian military, earning six medals.[2] (COMIC: Rogue Storm)
Operations on behalf of the Canadian Government[]
Encounter with the Hulk[]
After the Hulk travelled back across the border from the United States to Quebec, the intrusion was detected and noted by officers at a top secret Royal Canadian Air Force Tracking Installation. In remembrance of the damage caused by the Hulk's last visit, an RCAF Captain opted to deploy Weapon X to the battlefield.[3] (COMIC: And the Wind Howls... Wendigo!)
Intelligence work[]
Wolverine then performed intelligence work for the Canadian government. While working in Japan Logan met and came to count on Asano Kimura as a friend,[4] one of his oldest and closest.[5] On several different missions, including a botched one in Maracaibo, Logan encountered Eugene Judd, working on the same side as often as not.[6]
X-Men activities[]
Recruitment[]
Charles Xavier, who had heard of Wolverine's battle with the Hulk, travelled to the Department H base in Quebec to recruit him. Wolverine, frustrated with his line of work and desiring more freedom, accepted Xavier's offer against the angered remonstrations of his superior, Major Chasen.[7] (COMIC: Second Genesis)

Trivia[]
Continuity[]
- Wolverine's first encounter with James and Heather Hudson is shown in Alpha Flight Volume 1 #33; the same issue also establishes Wolverine as having served in the Devil's Brigade.[9] However, since it falls heavily into the sliding time scale and retcons his history with the secret service as being after he left the X-Men (when, as mentioned and depicted in prior issues, it occurred prior to his meeting Charles Xavier) it will not be included in this wiki.
